A Screening of INCLUDING SAMUEL, 7pm, Moultonborough Academy, 25 Blake Road Moultonborough, NH
A Documentary by photojournalist Dan Habib, co-sponsored by the Institute on Disability at UNH and the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
Before his son Samuel was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, photojournalist Dan Habib rarely thought about the inclusion of people with disabilities. Now he thinks about inclusion every day. Shot and produced over four years, Habib's award-winning documentary film, Including Samuel, honestly chronicles the Habib family's efforts to include Samuel in every facet of their lives. The film also features four other families with varied inclusion experiences, plus interviews with dozens of teachers, young people, parents and disability rights experts.
Including Samuel is a highly personal, passionately photographed film that captures the cultural and systemic barriers to inclusion.
NH Connections will lead a discussion after the screening. Dan Habib will not be in attendance for the evening screening.

The switch from analog to digital television will take place February 17, 2009. After that date, any household using an analog system (think "rabbit ears") will no longer be able to receive a televised signal unless they switch to a digital TV, subscribe to a paid TV service or install a digital-to-analog converter box.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is very concerned that residents, particularly those who are elderly, disabled or confined to their home understand what this transition means and how it may affect them. Television is considered to be one of the major methods of communicating in an emergency. If some residents are not able to receive a TV signal, they might have not access to information in an emergency. The Federal government is offering assistance to pay for converter boxes - up to two $40 coupons per household.

To help you understand this better, the FCC will present a public education session about this change on Thursday, January 15 at 2 PM at the Woodside Building at Taylor Community in Laconia. The program is targeted to the above-mentioned groups and those who deliver services or provide care for them. Please encourage agency representatives, loved ones and citizens to attend. Information on how to obtain converter boxes will be shared at the session.
